Los Angeles is such a popular destination for tourists of all ages. Teenagers, especially, will find the City of Angels full of exciting activities and adventures. From visiting one of LA’s many famous theme parks to catching some waves along the shore just outside the city, you’re sure to find something to add to your itinerary.
Thrilling Theme Parks
Teens tend to think that LA just boasts Disneyland but let’s face it, some teens tend to think those Mickey ears and Dole Whips are so elementary. (I know, I know, I don’t understand either.) Not to fear though, there are many other theme parks around the Los Angeles area that teens will enjoy. First try Six Flags Magic Mountain, which is known for its extreme roller coasters, but if you’re looking for a more intimate footprint with less thrill-seeking options, take the teens to Knotts Berry Farm. However, the top theme park choice for teens around Los Angeles is definitely Universal Studios Hollywood.
Unless you’re already coming from a place with a beach, this is a must-do with any teen coming to California. Start with the Santa Monica Pier or Venice Beach where there are thriving boardwalks with souvenir shops, casual dining, and snack bars. There is also a multitude of table vendors, artists and street performers set up along for entertainment. Of course, you can’t beat the waves at either of these iconic surfing destinations.
Movie Studio Tour and/or Live Show Taping
If your teen is over the age of sixteen, LA is the place to attend a live TV show taping. Whether it’s a taping of your favorite sitcom, late-night talk show, or unknown pilot during a Summer hiatus, it’s a sure bet your teen will enjoy it. Keep in mind, that with these tapings there’s often a lot of waiting around, so weigh how much time you have to devote to it. If you don’t have that extra 5-6 hours to spend seeing a TV show being taped, try a one or two-hour studio tour instead! Get the full behind the scenes look at the TV and movie industry—maybe even catch a glimpse of a famous actor!
